Kashipur man held for using fake arms licence to buy pistol

Dehradun: Uttarakhand police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested a Kashipur resident for allegedly using a fake arms licence to purchase a semi-automatic pistol, officials said on Sunday.“Accused Faheem Ahmed, 24, a resident of Udham Singh Nagar district, was arrested and a fake arms licence, a .32 bore semi-automatic pistol and nine bullets were seized from him,” SSP STF Ajai Singh said.The arrest was made late Saturday night during an ongoing probe into the use of fake arms licences to acquire firearms and pass them off as legally licensed weapons. SSP Singh said the case had links to multiple districts, including Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar, where three cases have been registered.The accused had allegedly obtained the fake licence from Shahjahanabad district in Uttar Pradesh, he said.So far, STF has arrested 11 accused and recovered 15 illegal firearms in connection with the case. Singh said STF was urging others involved in the racket to surrender fake arms licences and illegally procured firearms at the nearest police station before they were identified during the investigation.
