Kerala assembly polls 2026 results
This year’s Assembly Election results indicate a firm mandate in favour of the Congress-led UDF, with the Indian National Congress (INC) becoming as the single largest party, winning 63 seats. Its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), added 22 seats, toughening the coalition’s position. On the other side, the ruling Left bloc saw reduced numbers, with the CPI (M) securing 26 seats and the Communist Party of India winning 8. Smaller allies and regional parties like Kerala Congress and Revolutionary Socialist Party contributed modestly. BJP managed to win 3 seats, marking a limited but notable presence. Independents and smaller parties accounted for the remaining seats, with the total tally nearing completion at 138 declared results and 2 still leading out of 140 constituencies.

Exit poll trends: Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is likely to win the 2026 Assembly elections in Kerala, unseating the ruling Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) Pinarayi Vijayan, according to surveys. In Kerala’s 140-member Legislative Assembly, the halfway mark required to form a government is 71 seats. While most of the exit polls predicted a UDF victory, many indicated a close contest with the CPI(M)-led LDF, which has been in power for a decade.
Past patterns matter: Exit polls in Kerala’s 2021 Assembly elections largely predicted an LDF win but underestimated the scale of its victory, while overestimating the Opposition UDF’s performance. The LDF eventually secured 99 seats against the UDF’s 41, significantly outperforming most projections. At the same time, the BJP, led in Kerala by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is pushing for a historic breakthrough, though projections suggest it will remain on the margins with 0–7 seats.
