A teacher of Pattanur UP school in Irrikkur in Kannur district in Kerala has been suspended after allegedly assaulting a Class II student, with the Education department taking disciplinary action following the registration of a police case.
The suspended teacher has been identified as Vipin, and the action came after the Mattanur police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the child’s mother.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 16. According to the complaint, the teacher allegedly hit the student on the back with his hand for being slow in copying notes from the blackboard.
The child later sought treatment at a hospital after complaining of back pain. Hospital authorities informed Childline officials, who visited the student’s house and recorded the child’s statement.
The police registered the case on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) following the complaint lodged by the student’s mother.
