The Home department has issued orders to constitute a State-level task force led by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) to ensure timely investigation of complaints related to dowry harassment and domestic violence.
The task force comprises representatives from multiple agencies including the District Jagratha Samithi, District Women’s Cell, Sakhi One Stop Centre, Legal Services Authority, the District Officer of the Women and Child Development department and a woman representative.
The decision is based on recommendations made by a State Legislative Assembly committee, which had observed that complaints relating to dowry harassment and domestic violence were increasing steadily and required urgent and coordinated intervention. The committee also recommended that every police station should accord priority to such complaints and that a dedicated task force should be established to ensure prompt action and justice for victims.
The government also examined proposals submitted by the State Police Chief and the Women and Child Development department for the matter.
