As early counting trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking a strong lead over the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in West Bengal, social media platforms erupted with memes, slogans and sharp political jibes, turning the results into a full-blown online spectacle.
According to Election Commission’s latest trends, the BJP was ahead in 188 seats, while the TMC trailed with 92 as counting progressed across the state. Outside the BJP office in Kolkata, celebrations broke out as supporters gathered, even as the final outcome remained awaited.

The phrase “Khela Shesh" quickly trended across platforms, often paired with “Bye Bye Didi", a reference to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Users flooded timelines with edited GIFs, memes and viral posts reacting to the shifting trends.
One user wrote, “Bye bye didi, you won’t be missed at all," while another posted, “Mam khela shesh! It’s better now you pack your bags and return back home. We Bengalis have decided our fate now let it in our hands!."
Another widely shared post read, “’Khela hobe’ is wrong expression now. Correct expression now is ‘Khela hoye gechhe’!."
The humour-laced reactions were matched with political commentary and heated debate. Some users expressed disbelief at the trends, while others warned against reading too much into early leads.
Meanwhile, a user wrote he would leave the state if BJP wins. “Today, if BJP wins, I’ll leave West Bengal forever"."
At the same time, longer political arguments also surfaced, with users debating voting patterns, identity politics and allegations of vote consolidation. Some posts criticised both major parties, while others questioned broader electoral processes.
“Some vote for TMC for its socialist policies, some out of fear of repercussions if they don’t, some belong to a self-proclaimed intellectual class whose sole identity is hating BJP, and some older voters remain loyal to the communists, effectively splitting the vote. So, BJP winning Bengal would be nothing short of a miracle. I hope it happens," a user noted.
