'Knew Her Since Childhood': Matchmaker Recalls 'Humble' Siya After Ketan Agarwal Murder

The matchmakers told police they were stunned after learning that Siya had been accused of Ketan's murder, saying they had never imagined she was capable of such an act.

While many millennials and Gen Z now choose their own life partners, arranged marriages continue to be a common tradition in India, with families often taking the lead in finding a suitable match.

In the Ketan Agarwal murder case, the relatives who helped arrange the marriage say they are struggling to come to terms with the allegations against the bride-to-be.

As the investigation into the murder unfolds, it has emerged that Siya Goyal’s maternal uncle and aunt, Narendra Mittal and Renu Mittal, played a key role in arranging her marriage to Pune-based businessman Ketan Agarwal.

The couple told police they were stunned after learning that Siya had been accused of Ketan’s murder, saying they had never imagined she was capable of such an act.

According to sources, Narendra Mittal told investigators that both Siya and Ketan appeared to be well-mannered, humble and good-natured.

“We have known Siya since childhood. We never even dreamt that she could do something like this," he said, according to an NDTV report.

Police have alleged that Ketan was murdered on June 18 after being pushed to his death by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Investigators claim Siya initially attempted to portray the incident as an accident, but the subsequent probe revealed it was a premeditated murder.

Siya’s father, Pravin Goyal, also expressed disbelief over the allegations and mourned Ketan’s death.

“What happened is a very tragic event. We still can’t believe it. They’ve lost their son, and their son was ours too. We loved him so much. I had grown so attached to him that it felt like he was our own son. We lost such a loving, promising, good boy today. We are deeply saddened by that. There is nothing more tragic than this," he said.

“We had so many good dreams for the future. The wedding was supposed to take place in Udaipur. Siya never expressed her displeasure about the wedding. Ever since the match was finalised, she’s always been happy. She always talked about Ketan. If they (Ketan’s parents) had even slightly informed us that something was going wrong, we would have talked to them," he added.
