Kufos signs pact with NIOT on ocean biology, blue economy

The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, on the National Strategic Framework for Capacity Building in Ocean Biology and Blue Economy.

Under the terms of the MoA, NIOT will provide ₹4.12 crore towards the MSc. Marine Biology programme to be conducted at Kufos and Lakshadweep. The financial assistance will be provided through the Deep Ocean Mission under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).

The initiative aims to strengthen advanced training, research capacity, and skilled human resources in the marine biology and blue economy sectors, said a communication.

The MoA was signed by Dinesh K., Registrar, Kufos, at NIOT, Chennai, in the presence of A. Biju Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Kufos, and V.P. Limna Mol, Assistant Professor (Course Coordinator, Marine Biology), Department of Marine Biosciences, Faculty of Ocean Science and Technology, Kufos.
