Lando Norris secured a podium finish in the sprint race at the British Grand Prix, but the McLaren driver was far from satisfied. The British racer crossed the line in third place after a strong opening lap, yet his frustration with the team’s performance was clear over the team radio and in his post-race interview.Although Norris collected valuable points, he felt the car did not perform as expected. He admitted he had to fight with the car throughout the race and urged McLaren to improve before the main Grand Prix, despite holding off George Russell in the closing stages.
Lando Norris questions McLaren after difficult sprint race
Lando Norris started the sprint race from sixth on the grid but made an excellent launch when the lights went out. His quick getaway helped him move through the field and put himself in a strong position early in the race.
As the laps went on, however, Norris began to struggle with the pace of his McLaren. His medium tyres started to lose performance near the end of the race, allowing George Russell to close the gap quickly. By the final lap, Russell was less than a second behind and looked capable of making a move.Despite the late pressure, Norris defended well and crossed the finish line just ahead of the Mercedes driver to secure third place.
After the race, Norris’ engineer congratulated him on the result over the team radio. The McLaren driver accepted the result but also made it clear that he wanted the team to improve. He said the finish was positive, but stressed that the team needed to solve its recurring problems instead of making the same mistakes again.Norris carried the same message into his media interview. He explained that there was very little about the car that made him happy during the sprint.
He felt his biggest advantage came from his fast start rather than the performance of the car itself. According to Norris, the McLaren had several issues that should have been fixed already, and he believes the team is capable of doing a better job.The British driver added that while his opening lap was strong, he simply did not have the speed to challenge the leaders. Instead, most of his race was spent defending against Russell and the drivers behind him.
He described the result as encouraging but reminded everyone that the sprint race was only the beginning of the weekend and the team still had plenty of work to do before Sunday’s main event. At the front of the field, Andrea Kimi Antonelli claimed victory after an exciting battle with Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton started from pole position and initially led the race, but Antonelli used his pace to overtake him on the Hangar Straight during the closing stages. Once in front, the young Italian pulled away to secure the sprint win, while Hamilton settled for second place.
