A landslip has completely shut down the Thamarassery Ghat Road, a vital route on National Highway 766 that connects Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. The incident, which occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, brought all vehicular movement to a standstill.

Large volume of mud, rocks, and trees fell onto the road near the ninth hairpin bend close to the view point. While no injuries or casualties have been reported, the debris has made the stretch impassable for both vehicles and pedestrians. The authorities have warned that the area remains dangerous as rocks are still intermittently falling.

Following the incident, Wayanad and Kozhikode District Collectors imposed a banned on traffic through the pass. Police and fire brigade units are at the scene, and their immediate focus is on ensuring public safety and managing traffic. Officials and volunteers at Adivaram in Kozhikode and Lakkidi in Wayanad are working together to redirect vehicles and prevent further congestion. Commuters have been advised to avoid the Thamarassery route. Those undertaking urgent trips have been advised to use the alternative ghat roads at Kuttiady or Nadukani.

A timeline for clearing debris and reopening the road has not yet been fixed owing to risk of further landslips. Travellers have been urged to stay updated on the situation before planning their trips.

Ghat road experienced hours-long traffic block on Monday as well owing to a massive pile-up of vehicles after a parcel truck had brake failure and rammed vehicles in front of it.
