The Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned the absence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who they claim is “nowhere to be found". The Congress is yet to respond to it.

“As soon as elections arrive in the country… Taking flight to foreign lands upon defeat, This is Rahul Gandhi’s true identity!" said the BJP’s post on X.

“In the country’s politics, the question isn’t just about winning or losing elections, but also about fulfilling responsibilities. But Rahul Gandhi’s politics is limited only to winning and losing elections; he has no connection whatsoever with the people of the country. Therefore, the people of the country… keep account not just of speeches, but of behavior as well. The entire country is asking just one question: #WhereIsRahul?" it added.

WHAT RAHUL GANDHI SAID ON THURSDAY

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing him of insulting students and demanding that he apologise to the country’s youth and resign from his post.

In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi alleged that the Centre had become arrogant and was now targeting students who were raising concerns over their rights, fair examinations and employment prospects.

NOT THE FIRST TIME

The BJP has frequently raised questions over Gandhi’s absence across multiple public and institutional forums, framing it as a lack of commitment to parliamentary duties and disrespect for constitutional traditions. The party routinely targets his low legislative attendance, frequent foreign travels, and absence from key national events to critique his leadership.

For instance, the BJP strongly criticised Gandhi, especially in his capacity as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), for skipping official Independence Day events at the Red Fort.

The BJP also targeted Gandhi when he missed high-profile constitutional events, such as the oath-taking ceremonies of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Vice-President, accusing him of prioritising political itineraries over institutional respect.

BJP leaders frequently cite parliamentary data indicating that Gandhi’s attendance hovers around or below 50%, which is well under the national average for Members of Parliament.

The BJP has pointed out instances where Gandhi demands a debate or discussion on a specific national issue—such as geopolitical conflicts or the space programme—but remains absent when the Prime Minister or Parliament addresses the matter.

Another point of contention has been Gandhi’s repeated absence from critical institutional panels.

The Congress has defended it citing sudden health issues or medical indisposition, emphasising Gandhi frequently prioritises direct public outreach, such as domestic yatras (marches) and mass contact programmes, over indoor committee meetings.

The party defends his private foreign trips as a fundamental right to personal life and family visits, accusing the BJP of engaging in low-level distraction tactics.
