Indian GM Arjun Erigaisi got the better of Nodirbek Abdusattorov on Friday to move into the semifinal of the Las Vegas Freestyle Chess Grand Tour, while Praggnanandhaa’s challenge for the title came to a halt as he lost to Fabiano Caruana.
Erigaisi beat Uzbekistan’s Abdusattorov with the score reading 1.5-0.5, while Pragg lost his tie against Caruana 3-4 in armageddon. Erigaisi is slated to take on Levon Aronian, while Hans Niemann will meet Caruana.
Vidit Gujrati, the other Indian in the fray fell to Norwegian World No.1 Magnus Carlsen in the clash between the two in the lower bracket.
The American duo, Levon Aronian and Niemann, emerged victorious in the quarterfinal stage, defeating their compatriot Hikaru Nakamura and Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan, respectively. Aronian secured his win with a 2.5-1.5 score over four games, while Niemann took longer, defeating Sindarov with a 4-2 score.
In the lower bracket, world number one Magnus Carlsen regained his winning form by ousting Vidit Gujrathi with a 2-0 score. American Wesley So achieved a 1.5-0.5 victory against compatriot Samuel Sevian, and Leinier Dominguez Perez smoothly defeated Bibisara Assaubayeva of Kazakhstan with a 1.5-0.5 score. Vincent Keymer of Germany, the winner of the first leg, triumphed over American Robson Ray with a 2.5-1.5 score.
