Leicester risk dropping to English football's third tier after a six-point deduction for financial breaches, falling to 20th in the Championship.

Leicester at risk of relegation
Leicester City faces the threat of relegation to English football’s third tier, a decade after their remarkable Premier League victory, following a deduction of six points due to financial rule violations on Thursday.
Having been relegated from the Premier League last season, this penalty drops the Foxes from 17th to 20th in the Championship, placing them only above the relegation zone on goal difference.
An independent commission determined that Leicester had exceeded the profit and sustainability threshold for the three years leading up to the 2023/24 season, when they were promoted from the Championship, by almost £21 million ($29 million).

In the three seasons from 2021/22 to 2023/24, the club reported losses totalling over £200 million.
Leicester issued a statement describing the sanction as “disproportionate" and stated that it did not sufficiently consider “mitigating factors presented."
They further stated: “We remain committed to engaging constructively and ensuring that any action is fair, proportionate and determined through the appropriate processes."
Leicester has not won any of their last four Championship matches and is currently without a permanent manager following the dismissal of Marti Cifuentes last month.
In the 2015/16 season, they won the Premier League despite starting as 5,000-1 outsiders.
They also secured the FA Cup for the first time in 2021 but were relegated in 2023.
Although they returned to the Premier League under Enzo Maresca, they were relegated again last season with only six wins in 38 games.
