US First lady Melania Trump blasted “lies linking me to the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein” in remarks from the White House on Thursday.

US First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday dismissed claims linking her to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and called on Congress to hold hearings allowing his victims to testify on Capitol Hill.
In a rare statement from the White House, the First Lady dubbed the allegations linking her to the sex offender as false and defamatory and called online accusations that she was somehow involved “smears about me."
“The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today. The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards, humility and respect. I do not object to their ignorance, but rather I reject their mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation," she said.
Reading an extraordinary statement at the White House, she denied any association with Epstein and said, “My attorneys and I have fought these unfounded and baseless lies with success."
Melania Trump further said that she had never had any relationship with Epstein or his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, adding that her interaction with Maxwell was limited to casual correspondence.
“I have never been friends with Epstein. Donald and I were invited to the same parties as Epstein from time to time, since overlapping in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach," the first lady said. “To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell."
She further called on Congress to provide a forum for Epstein’s victims to testify on Capitol Hill.
“I call on Congress to provide the women who have been victimized by Epstein with a public hearing specifically centered around the survivors, give these victims their opportunity to testify under oath in front of Congress with the power of sworn testimony," she said.
“Each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public, if she wishes, and then her testimony should be permanently entered into the congressional record."
Her statement came at a time when her husband, US President Donald Trump is facing renewed scrutiny over his alleged ties to Epstein who has been widely reported to have run a child sex and prostitution ring.
The relation between Donald and Jeffrey Epstein has renewed scrutiny after the United States Department of Justice began releasing documents related to the late sex offender under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law in November. Several of the filess mention Trump along with other prominent figures.
According to the newly disclosed documents, the woman alleged that Trump attempted to force her to perform oral sex after Epstein introduced her to the future president in New York or New Jersey in the 1980s, when she said she was between 13 and 15 years old. FBI agents interviewed the woman four times in 2019.
Trump has repeatedly said his association with Epstein ended in the mid-2000s and that he was unaware of the financier’s sexual abuse. Previously released records show Trump flew several times on Epstein’s plane in the 1990s, something Trump has denied.
Epstein died in custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
