Manchester United will face Tottenham on Saturday in their upcoming Premier League match as Michael Carrick’s team aims to secure a UEFA Champions League spot. United’s form has improved significantly since Carrick, a former midfield maestro, took over as caretaker manager, leading the club to three consecutive wins and climbing to fourth place in the Premier League table.
Carrick, who sat across Frank in an interviewer capacity for Amazon Prime in September, will clash against the Dane during Spurs’ trip to OT.
“Yeah, life certainly can change. I really enjoyed it, actually," said Carrick as he reflected on the interview.
“We got on really well. It’s the first time I’ve met him properly and we had a good chat just about general kind of football things… I enjoyed it, so it will be good to see him again."
Carrick, who played for United from 2006 to 2018, joined the club after a brief stint at Tottenham. He will now return to face Spurs in a different role.
“They certainly bring a challenge. I think you can see especially the way they finished the game the other day.
“They’ve had players injured and ins and outs, and a lot of changes to the team, which makes things a lot more challenging, a lot more difficult from their perspective. But they’re getting players back.
“They’ve got really good attackers that look to stretch the backline and play forward and attack the box an awful lot. It’s something we’ve certainly got to be aware of."
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has praised Carrick’s efforts to revitalise the United team, which had struggled under previous boss Ruben Amorim.
“I think Carrick has had a great start. It seems like there was injected a little bit of energy into the team. I think it looks like some of the players are in a good place.
“We know the threats they pose before from Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes is getting this team ticking. He has done that the last, I don’t know, four or five years. It has been incredible.
“It is a threat, it is a challenge, but we are looking forward to it," the Dane added.
