Lionel Messi has scored 17 goals in the FIFA World Cup for Argentina which is one more than Miroslav Klose's tally of 16 goals for Germany across four editions.

Lionel Messi entered his name in the history books on Monday (June 22) by becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history. The 38-year-old footballer from Argentina scored his record extending 17th goal in the FIFA World Cup in the 39th minute of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J match against Austria at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
