Supreme Court SIR Hearing
SC Verdict Today Live Updates: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict today on a batch of petitions challenging the legality of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The exercise was conducted in Bihar in 2025 and earlier this year in Bengal. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi is scheduled to deliver the judgment at 10.30 am. The verdict is expected to determine whether the Election Commission has the powers to undertake the SIR exercise in its present form. The petitions, however, argue that the poll body does not possess the legal authority to carry out such an extensive revision exercise in the manner it did in Bihar. The Election Commission has defended the exercise, maintaining that electoral roll purification and verification fall squarely within its constitutional mandate.
