Lok Adalat settles over 10,700 pending cases in Mysuru

The National Lok Adalat conducted across Mysuru district on Saturday disposed of 10,775 pending court cases through conciliation, leading to the settlement of disputes worth ₹84.39 crore. The mega legal aid initiative also helped 38 estranged couples resolve their matrimonial disputes and reunite.

The Lok Adalat was organised under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, Bengaluru, with the objective of settling court-pending and pre-litigation cases through amicable compromise.

According to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mysuru, the city and taluk courts together had 1,35,890 pending cases, including 61,336 civil and 74,554 criminal cases. Of these, 30,055 cases were identified as fit for settlement, while 15,606 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat. As many as 10,775 cases were successfully disposed of through negotiated settlements.

One of the major highlights of the Lok Adalat was the disposal of 2,75,853 traffic challan violation cases across the district, resulting in the collection of ₹6.89 crore in fines, according to a press release.

The Lok Adalat also provided a platform for resolving family disputes, with 38 couples attached to Mysuru city and taluk courts amicably settling their differences and resuming their marital lives.

Overall, disputes involving ₹84,39,27,106 were settled through mutual compromise during the National Lok Adalat.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Usharani thanked the office-bearers of the Bar Association, advocates, litigants, the Police Department, other government departments and the media for their support in ensuring the success of the National Lok Adalat.
