In bid to seek roll back of VB-G RAM-G Act, the Congress will hold a “Lok Bhavan Chalo” protest on Tuesday to petition the Governor against the repeal of the MGNREGA Scheme.
The Lok Bhavan Chalo is part of the State-wide campaign by the Congress against the repeal of MGNREGA, which has now been replaced by the Centre with Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act.
“It is our Right to Work. A great strength to Constitution was given through the Act (MGNREGA) 20 years ago. Now we have decided to take out a protest march to Lok Bhavan on Tuesday,” Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar told presspersons here on Monday. He said that after the Lok Bhavan Chalo, protest marches would be held in every Assembly constituency, 10 to 15 days later in which all Ministers concerned will take part.
Stating that the Congress will protest till the decision on MGNREGA is not rolled back, he said: “A minimum of five km protest march will be held in all Assembly constituencies, in which Congress leaders, gram panchayat members and employment card holders will participate in big numbers.”
The Lok Bhavan Chalo protest will be held at Freedom Park at 11 a.m in Bengaluru. Among those taking part in it will include Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala and a host of Cabinet Ministers, legislators and leaders of the Congress.
