Cockroach Janta Party: Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the rapidly growing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has alleged that his personal Instagram account was hacked and that several social media accounts linked to the movement have faced fresh restrictions in recent days.
Dipke claimed he lost access to his Instagram profile and remained unable to recover it despite repeated attempts through Meta’s account recovery system. Screenshots shared by him showed Instagram repeatedly displaying a message stating that the account had been locked “for safety" and could only be restored after identity verification and a password reset.
According to Dipke, the recovery process failed multiple times, leaving him locked out of the account.
The development comes as the Cockroach Janta Party continues to witness a dramatic rise in popularity online, particularly among younger users.
Backup Instagram Account Briefly Taken Down
Dipke also alleged that the party’s backup Instagram account was temporarily taken down before being restored hours later.
In a series of posts on X, he accused social media platforms of targeting accounts associated with the movement.
“Crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party. Instagram page hacked. My personal Instagram hacked. Twitter account withheld. Back up account also taken down," Dipke wrote.
He further clarified that the group currently does not have access to several of its official platforms and urged followers not to treat any unauthorised posts as official statements from the party.
X Handle Earlier Withheld In India
The latest controversy follows action earlier this week when the party’s X handle was withheld in India.
Soon afterwards, the group returned to the platform through a new account named “Cockroach Is Back", where it mocked critics and hinted that attempts were being made to silence the movement because of its rapidly growing influence online.
One of the posts read, “You thought you can get rid of us? Lol", while another suggested the action came shortly after the party overtook major political outfits on Instagram.
From Meme Movement To Political Phenomenon
What began as a satirical internet campaign has now evolved into one of India’s fastest-growing digital political movements.
Within days of its launch, the Cockroach Janta Party surpassed the BJP’s Instagram following and later overtook the Congress as well, becoming the most-followed political outfit on the platform.
Its sharp rise has largely been driven by Gen Z users, meme culture and online frustration over unemployment, exam paper leaks and political accountability.
Sharp Political Reactions
The movement has also triggered intense political debate online.
Several BJP supporters have labelled the outfit a possible “threat to national security", while some social media users alleged links with Pakistan’s ISI and support from opposition parties.
At the same time, a number of opposition leaders, activists and public figures have openly interacted with or expressed support for the movement, further fuelling political discussions around its sudden rise.
How The Movement Started
The Cockroach Janta Party was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston-based former social media campaign worker associated with the Aam Aadmi Party during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.
The movement gained momentum after controversial remarks allegedly linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant went viral online. Some social media users claimed the remarks compared unemployed youths and activists to “cockroaches" and “parasites".
Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his comments had been misquoted, the controversy quickly snowballed into a large online campaign.
Operating under the slogan “Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy", the CJP describes itself as “a political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth".
Its manifesto blends satire with serious political demands, including electoral reforms, stronger institutional accountability, women’s reservation and action against exam-related controversies such as the NEET paper leak issue.
What Lies Ahead?
Despite repeated restrictions on its social media presence, the movement continues to attract significant online attention.
Whether the Cockroach Janta Party eventually transforms into a formal political organisation or remains an internet-driven protest movement, its rapid rise has already made it one of the most closely watched digital political phenomena in the country.
