Luka Modric will join AC Milan following the Club World Cup, newly appointed Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Monday. The move signals the end of Modric’s illustrious 13-year tenure at Real Madrid.

Modric Set for August Arrival

“Modric will arrive in August. He is an extraordinary player," Allegri said during his first press conference since taking over at Milan.

The 39-year-old Croatia captain had announced in May that he would leave Real Madrid after the Club World Cup. The Spanish giants are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals on Wednesday, with the final scheduled for Sunday.

A 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, Modric will be joining a Milan side aiming to rebound after finishing eighth in Serie A last season, missing out on European competition.

“To the fans, I say the most important thing is to work well every day," Allegri said. “The only way to regain respect is through responsibility and by achieving results. We will absolutely need their support."

Allegri returns to Milan for a second spell, having replaced Sergio Conceicao in late May. He previously guided the Rossoneri to a Serie A title in the 2010–11 season and most recently managed Juventus.

Squad Reshuffle Underway

Allegri also outlined upcoming changes to the squad. Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has been sold to Manchester City, while French left-back Theo Hernandez is reportedly close to a move to Saudi club Al-Hilal.

“While Reijnders and Hernandez won’t be part of the team next season, (goalkeeper) Mike Maignan and (forward) Rafael Leão seem willing to stay," Allegri revealed.

AC Milan will begin their 2025–26 Serie A campaign at home against Cremonese on August 23, with Allegri looking to re-establish Milan among Italy’s top contenders.
