 Premium looks, practical insights

Rating: 3/5

Noise recently introduced its second generation smart ring — Luna Ring Gen 2. The latest smart ring from Noise turns to AI in an attempt to stand out from the growing number of connected rings, using machine learning to offer advice on workouts and help users make better nutrition decisions.

With the smart ring market more competitive than ever, does the Luna Ring Gen 2 earn a place on your finger? We put it through its paces to find out.

Design

The Luna Ring Gen 2 from Noise manages to make a strong impression with its premium build and refined aesthetics. The smart ring is made from titanium and comes with non-allergic moulding on the inside where all the important sensor bumps sit. The ring rightly balances durability and lightweight design ensuring that it can easily withstand daily wear while remaining comfortable on the finger.

Noise has really worked hard on the Luna Ring Gen 2 as it is now 10% slimmer as compared to the original Luna Ring and its sleeker profile also makes its less obtrusive on the finger.

There are five colour options to choose from — Stardust Silver, Lunar Black, Sunlit Gold, Midnight Black and Rose Gold. The smart ring stands out visually all thanks to its ripple-effect finish on the titanium surface which adds a subtle texture and also differentiates it from the other plain metallic rings.

Luna Ring Gen 2 is also water resistant up to 50 meters which means that the wearable can easily handle swimming and showering without any issues. The ring can be a distraction at night, as the green LEDs of the optical heart rate sensor sporadically flash on and off, and they are clearly visible. Those who are sensitive to light during sleep may find this irritating. Also, the titanium surface is also prone to scratches.

Overall, the Luna Ring Gen 2 strikes a balance between style and functionality.Another interesting element which comes with the Luna Ring Gen 2 is its portable charging case, which rightly complements the design philosophy of the smart ring. Instead of the little charging plinth that came with the Gen 1 version, you now get a compact case that looks more like the cases you get with earbuds, or the Samsung Galaxy Ring.

The case is made of acrylic, ABS plastic, and aluminium alloy with rubberised ring-shaped feet.

The top is made of polished metal, while the inside is covered with a mirror-like material. It feels anything but generic designers put considerable effort into using different materials rather than making it a dull-looking plastic thing. The indicator lighting inside the case is equally well thought out. The inside LEDs form a ring of light around the charging area, serving as a charge level indicator.

When the ring is out of the case, these LEDs show the case's battery level or charging progress; when the ring is placed inside, they display the ring's battery level.

Features and performance

Crafted from fighter jet-grade titanium with a PVD coating and inner ring moulding, the Luna Ring Gen 2 can track more than 70 health metrics, including sleep stages, heart rate, activity levels, stress, and menstrual health. Unlike competitors such as the Oura Ring, Luna Ring Gen 2 operates on a subscription-free model, which means all insights and features are available without ongoing fees.

This makes it appealing to users who want long-term value without hidden costs.

The ring also integrates AI-driven coaching, offering personalized suggestions for workouts, nutrition, and lifestyle adjustments based on the data it collects. The sensor array inside the ring continuously monitors metrics like heart rate, activity levels, and recovery trends, though its heart rate accuracy is not as strong as rivals like the Oura Ring 4 or Samsung Galaxy Ring.

Still, for sleep and readiness tracking, the Luna Ring Gen 2 performs reliably. The inclusion of a portable charging case further enhances usability, allowing users to recharge the ring on the go without being tied to a dock.

Luna Ring 2 performance

The Luna Smart Ring Gen 2 boasts an easy-to-use, responsive, and informative app that tracks absolutely everything. You can start by downloading the Luna Ring app from the Play Store or App Store.

The interface is well organised, and the app feels quicker to update compared to the first generation. The app’s interface is sleek, minimalistic, and intuitive, ensuring that even first-time users can navigate health insights without feeling overwhelmed.

One of the standout aspects is the app’s emphasis on sleep and readiness tracking, which are displayed with detailed breakdowns and personalised recommendations.

The AI-driven coaching integrates seamlessly here, offering tailored suggestions for workouts, nutrition, and recovery based on the data collected by the ring. The app also supports real-time syncing with the ring, ensuring that users can check their metrics instantly after waking up or completing a workout. Notifications are subtle and non-intrusive, designed to encourage healthier habits without becoming a distraction.Coming to the performance part, the Luna Ring Gen 2 offers a mixed but generally positive experience. One of the strongest aspects of Luna Ring Gen 2 is its sleep tracking feature. The smart ring offers accurate insights into sleep stages and overall rest quality. The ring consistently provides reliable data on how long you slept, how restorative that sleep was, and whether you’re ready to take on the day. This makes it particularly useful for individuals who prioritise recovery and want to optimise their daily routines. On the other hand, the readiness score enables users to gauge whether their body is prepared for intense activity or needs rest. This metric is useful especially for the fitness enthusiasts as it translates raw health data into actionable advice. However, the Luna Ring Gen 2 does show limitations in heart rate monitoring. While it can track heart rate continuously, its accuracy lags behind. Battery is not one the strongest points of Luna Ring Gen 2. During our testing, the smart ring managed to deliver around four days of battery life on a single charge.

The battery performance is decent but as compared to other smart rings in the market it is a bit less. For users who rely on continuous health tracking, this means more frequent charging sessions and a bit of planning to avoid downtime. To offset this limitation, Luna includes both a charging dock and a portable charging case.

The dock is designed for home use, offering a stable and convenient way to recharge the ring overnight.

The portable case, however, is the real highlight, the compact and capsule-shaped case allows users to recharge the ring while traveling or on the go. Its magnetic alignment system ensures the ring sits securely inside, reducing the risk of misalignment or interrupted charging.

Verdict

Priced at Rs 24,999, the Luna Ring Gen 2 from Noise is a good smart ring, a few pain points from the first generation have been ironed out, the ring is around 10% slimmer, and the app feels quicker to update. Sleep tracking is more precise, likely due to improved sensor accuracy. The Luna Ring Gen 2 delivers solid value for those who want core health insights without ongoing fees. It’s not the most advanced smart ring on the market, but it succeeds in offering a balanced mix of design, convenience, and everyday health tracking.
