A first-year student of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) ended his life on campus on Tuesday, allegedly due to financial difficulties and personal issues.
The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Mayank Kundu, a native of West Bengal pursuing M.A. course in Economics, and residing on the university hostel.
According to Gachibowli Police Inspector K. Balaraju, the student was missing from his room since Monday morning. After he failed to return, his friends alerted the university administration, prompting officials to check his room, where a note was found.
In his note, the student mentioned that some students suspected him in connection with recent laptop thefts reported at the university library. He allegedly stated that while he had committed theft earlier due to financial difficulties, he was not involved in the recent incident. The note also referred to financial troubles and issues related to drug use, which he cited as reasons for taking the extreme step.
During a search operation on the campus, officials found the student’s body floating in a pond. The body was shifted for postmortem examination.
Police registered a case and further investigation is under way.
