Maharashtra’s largest expressway will face a 10-day traffic block as safety equipment and new technology are installed to improve passenger facilities and make travel safer

The Samruddhi Expressway connects Mumbai and Nagpur and is regarded as one of the country’s largest greenfield expressway projects.
Maharashtra’s largest expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, is set to face a temporary traffic block over the next 10 days as authorities move to strengthen safety and upgrade technology. During this period, advanced safety equipment and traffic management systems will be installed to improve passenger facilities and overall travel experience.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced the partial closure of the Samruddhi Expressway to carry out work under the Highway Traffic Management System, a move expected to make journeys safer and smoother for commuters in the long run.
Closure Dates And Advisory
The traffic block will be in effect from February 9 to February 18. Drivers and travellers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and remain prepared for possible delays during this period.
According to MSRDC, traffic will be blocked on the Samruddhi Expressway between 300.4 km and 365.8 km in Jalna district, covering the Buldhana-Lonar, Deulgaon Raja, and Sindkhed Raja routes.
Purpose Of The Traffic Block
During this period, gantries will be installed as part of the Samruddhi Highway Traffic Management System. These gantries will support:
- Speed monitoring
- Enforcement of traffic rules
- Accident reporting
- Faster emergency response
The aim is to significantly improve road safety and response efficiency on the expressway.
Phased Execution Of The Work
The installation work will be carried out in 10 phases, with one side of the highway temporarily closed during each phase. Traffic moving towards Mumbai or Nagpur will be completely halted for 50 to 60 minutes at a time.
Once a phase is completed, traffic will be allowed to resume. In total, gantries will be installed in 21 phases.
Guidelines For Travellers
Travellers are advised to:
- Plan journeys keeping possible delays in mind
- Use alternative routes where feasible
- Follow instructions issued by highway officials and traffic personnel
MSRDC has requested full cooperation from commuters to ensure the work is completed safely and on schedule.
Expected Benefits After The Upgrade
Once the system is operational:
- Speed monitoring will become more effective
- Accident detection and reporting will improve
- Emergency response times will be quicker
- Long-distance travel on the expressway will be smoother and safer
The Samruddhi Expressway connects Mumbai and Nagpur and is regarded as one of the country’s largest greenfield expressway projects. It spans 701 kilometres, making it the longest expressway in Maharashtra.
