The incident of a Mahindra Thar driver deliberately hitting an elderly man after initial collision with his scooty was caught on camera in Jammu.

A youth was booked for allegedly hitting an elderly man deliberately from his Mahindra Thar after the latter’s scooty collided with the accused’s car in Jammu, officials said on Monday.

A video of the incident surfaced online, showing that the accused drove his car rashly from Gandhi Nagar towards Greenbelt Park.

The elderly man who was driving a scooty rammed into the vehicle near Allora Textiles at around 1.30 pm on Sunday, after which the Thar driver reversed his car and hit the victim deliberately again. The elderly man suffered grave injuries in the incident.

“The injured person was taken to GMC Hospital Jammu by passers-by, while the Thar driver fled the scene," the police said.

Police have filed a case at the Gandhi Nagar police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving (section 281), attempt to murder (section 109), and putting people’s lives in danger (section 125a). They have also taken the vehicle into their custody.

The accused was identified as Manan Anand, son of Rajinder Anand of Nanak Nagar, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Sharma said, adding that he was absconding. However, the owner of the car has been detained.

He said that the video of the incident surfaced on social media, and numerous accounts have reported it.

The cops said that the driver is currently at large and may have left Jammu. The police are making efforts to trace and nab him.
