TMC MP Mahua Moitra moves Delhi High Court, challenging Saket Court's order denying her the interim custody of a pet dog named Henry
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has moved the Delhi High Court, challenging a Saket Court’s order, which denied her the interim custody of a pet Rottweiler dog named Henry, Bar and Bench reported.
According to the report, Moitra’s plea for Henry’s interim custody for 10 days every month was turned down by the Saket Court on November 10, 2025.
On Thursday, Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri issued notice to Moitra’s ex-boyfriend, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, seeking his response to the plea.
In her appeal against the trial court order, the TMC leader argued that the trial court order is bad in law and fact as it failed to consider that Henry was given to her as her pet “to be loved and cared for, and resided primarily at her residence, unless she was out of station for her duties in her constituency, during which time Henry resided with the Respondent (Dehadrai)".
Dehdrai, who appeared before the court, sought dismissal of Moitra’s plea. The case is now scheduled to be heard on April 29.
WHAT IS THE CASE?
Jai Anant Dehadrai and Mahua Moitra were reportedly in a relationship and took care of pet Henry. As their relationship strained with Dehadrai accusing Moitra of “cash-for-query", Henry emerged as a focal point of their dispute.
Both of them claimed that Henry belonged to them, as they accused each other of partly “kidnapping" the pet.
Dehadrai had alleged that Moitra accepted bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in Parliament. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also filed a complaint regarding the TMC MP before the Lok Sabha speaker, which subsequently led to her expulsion from the Parliament on December 8, 2023.
Moitra, on the other hand, rebuffed the allegations, stressing there had been no quid pro quo. Meanwhile, Dehadrai and Dubey alleged that Hiranandani used her Lok Sabha account to post questions of his liking.
As the row escalated, Moitra filed a defamation suit against both Dubey and Dehadrai. However, the TMC leader’s plea for interim injunction was dismissed by the High Court in March 2024.
