Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut has opened admissions for undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes for the 2026-27 academic session, with online applications set to remain open until July 10.
The university has introduced several new courses this year, including Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES), B.Sc. Yoga and M.Sc. Yoga, while also launching specialised diploma programmes aimed at students seeking careers in sports and allied fields.
According to university officials, admissions are also being offered for a one-year PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition, the School of Coaching will offer one-year PG Diploma programmes in Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Hockey, Kabaddi, Wrestling and Yoga.
The university will admit 50 students to the BPES programme, 40 to B.Sc. Yoga, 20 to M.Sc. Yoga and 15 students to the PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication.
A key feature of the admission process is the provision for direct admission of outstanding sportspersons. Athletes who have represented India at the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Asian Championships and other international events will be eligible for direct admission.
The university has also reserved an additional 10 per cent seats across programmes for meritorious sportspersons. These seats will be over and above the approved intake capacity.
Officials said special consideration would be given to medal winners at Khelo India events, School Games Federation of India competitions and national-level championships across various age categories.
Vice-Chancellor Major General Deep Ahlawat said the university would offer a total of 12 programmes from the 2026-27 session, including nine diploma courses, two undergraduate programmes and one postgraduate programme.
Admissions will be based on a fitness test, with merit determined through a combination of Class 12 scores and performance in the physical assessment.
The university said the new programmes are designed to provide practical, skill-based training and create career opportunities in sports, coaching, fitness, media and related sectors.
Officials added that the institution’s long-term objective is to support athlete development while contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and sports education in the state.
