Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh govt is set to launch a major recruitment drive for assistant professors, with over 1,600 vacancies likely to be advertised across 330 govt-aided colleges.The Directorate of Higher Education has received details of vacant posts from various colleges and uploaded the information on the portal of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission.Officials said the final vacancy position would be communicated to the commission within the next one or two days after matching the available posts with those covered under advertisement. Once the reconciliation process is completed, the commission is expected to move forward with the recruitment exercise.Initially, the number of vacant assistant professor posts was estimated at around 1,150. However, now the figure has risen to a beyond 1,600.Director of higher education, Dr BL Sharma, said information regarding vacant posts was being regularly sent to the selection commission’s portal. The last major recruitment drive for assistant professors in aided colleges was launched in 2022, when an advertisement was issued for 1,017 posts. Of these, excluding 109 BEd posts, a written re-examination for the remaining 910 posts was conducted on April 18 and 19 this year.

The number of vacant principal posts in aided colleges is also expected to rise. So far, the directorate of higher education has sent requisitions for 111 principal posts to the selection commission’s portal. However, many colleges are yet to submit vacancy details.In another major development in the education sector, state govt has sought a proposal for the creation of teaching posts in the Chief Minister Model Composite Schools being established across the state.

These schools are being developed to provide modern, high-quality education on the lines of private convent schools.Govt has directed additional director of education, Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, to submit a report on the number of teachers required for classes from pre-nursery to Class 12. Two teachers will be deployed in each section. A total of 150 such schools are planned in the state. Funds have already been released for 126 schools, while construction work has started on 86 of them.Govt is preparing to begin academic activities in these schools from the next session. To be run under the UP Board, the institutions will also offer English-medium education.
