In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his mother after a dispute over a meal in Maharashtra, police said. The argument broke out at their home over bitter gourd curry that had been prepared for dinner.

In a fit of rage, the 37-year-old accused repeatedly kicked and punched his 65-year-old mother during the altercation in Dongargaon village of Mul taluka on Thursday night. The deceased, Sumitra is believed to have succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Jagdish Petkule. He was arrested shortly after the incident.

Police sources said the accused had a history of alcohol dependence. His wife reportedly left him two months ago, and he had been staying with his mother since then. On the night of the incident, he was allegedly intoxicated, Times of India reported.

Villagers informed the police shortly after the assault came to light. A team from the Mul police station arrived at the village, secured the area, and took the accused into custody. The victim’s body has been sent for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have filed a case and launched a thorough investigation to determine the sequence of events and uncover any other factors related to the crime.
