The Madiwala police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to smuggle red sanders and seized 285 kg of red sandalwood pieces worth ₹7.12 lakh.

According to the police, on March 11, they received information that the accused was present near the Silk Board Bus Stand, carrying red sandalwood pieces with the intention of selling them.

A police team rushed to the spot and apprehended the suspect. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had sourced the red sanders from contacts in Andhra Pradesh.

He further revealed that the contraband had been illegally stored on a vacant plot near Anekal on the outskirts of the city for distribution.

Based on the information, the police recovered the stored red sandalwood. Efforts are under way to trace the source and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling network. Further investigation is on.
