A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner in Bengaluru’s Varthur area, with the incident coming to light two days after it occurred.

The victim has been identified as Ranjitha (23), while the accused, Ayyappa, has been arrested by the police. Both are natives of Kodagu.

According to police, Ayyappa had earlier separated from his wife following frequent disputes. A few years later, he fell in love with Ranjitha from the same village. Despite belonging to different castes, Ayyappa reportedly convinced her family that he would marry her and brought her to Bengaluru.

The couple had been living together for the past few months in the Varthur area. Ayyappa was working as a supervisor at a dry fruits shop.

Police said frequent quarrels had recently broken out between the two. Ranjitha had also reportedly told her parents that Ayyappa had assaulted her and abused her over caste issues.

Ayyappa later called Ranjitha’s family claiming that she had died by suicide. However, suspecting foul play, the woman’s family lodged a complaint with the police.

During the investigation, police found that Ranjitha had been strangled with a cable wire. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway by Varthur police.

The victim’s family has taken her body to Ponnampet in Kodagu for the last rites.
