Man arrested on charge of matricide

The police have arrested a 47-year-old man from Perambra who was accused of murdering his mother following some disputes over their family property.

Lineesh, the suspect in the incident, was nabbed on Friday (August 8) based on the post-mortem report, which revealed details of the cruel physical assault on the 64-year-old woman identified as T. Padmavathi.

According to police sources, there were “purposeful attempts” on the part of the accused to portray it as a slip and fall accident and divert the investigation. It was some doubts raised by the hospital authorities that eventually made the police zero in on Lineesh who later confessed to the crime, they said.

The elderly woman, who was reportedly a victim of regular physical assault, succumbed to grave internal injuries at a private hospital near Perambra on August 5.
