Man arrested with 9 country made pistols and 15 magazines in Indore

INDORE: Lasudia police on Saturday made a major breakthrough in the crackdown against illegal arms trafficking with the arrest of a 25-year-old man carrying a large cache of country-made pistols.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team intercepted the accused, identified as Kamal Singh Thakur, son of Mukesh Thakur, a resident of Dhamnod in Dhar district, while he was waiting for a bus at Dewas Naka on Thursday night. Police said Thakur was transporting nine country-made pistols and 15 magazines from Khargone and was on his way to deliver them in Bhind.Additional DCP Amrendra Singh said police commissioner Santosh Singh had directed city-wide vigilance to curb the inflow of illegal weapons in the city.Following these orders, Singh instructed the formation of a special team under the guidance of ACP Vijay Nagar Aditya Patle and station in-charge Taresh Kumar Soni.Based on specific intelligence, the team laid a trap and apprehended the accused. Police also seized his mobile phone apart from the cache of arms.Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused has a past criminal record linked to arms trafficking.A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Lasudia police station and the accused was produced in court, where police secured his remand for further interrogation to trace the source of the weapons.
