Man booked for throwing puppy into tandoor

Chandigarh: UT police have booked an unidentified person for allegedly throwing a puppy into a burning tandoor in Bapudham Colony. A case has been registered at Sector 26 police station under provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and sections of the BNS.

No arrest has been made so far.Complainant Sanjay (26), a resident of Phase II, Bapudham Colony, told police that around 1.40am on Saturday, while returning home on foot, he spotted a man approaching from the Sampark Centre side carrying a puppy near a dhaba.Sanjay alleged that the man suddenly threw the puppy into a tandoor placed outside the eatery and fled the spot. He said he immediately rushed to the tandoor and pulled the animal out, but it had succumbed to its injuries.The complainant later buried the puppy near Sukhna Choe in the same locality and informed the police.After recording his statement and conducting preliminary verification, police registered an FIR against the unidentified accused. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the suspect.The complainant Sanjay stated that he can identify the person who threw the puppy into the tandoor if he comes before him.
