A 56-year-old man who had been undergoing treatment for severe head injuries sustained in an alleged assault following a drunken altercation near the Kannur railway station died on Friday (July 3, 2026).
The deceased was identified as Chandran, 56, a native of Thiruvananthapuram.
According to the police, Chandran was assaulted outside the railway station at around 8 p.m. on June 25. He was initially treated at the Kannur district hospital and later shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Pariyaram, after his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to his injuries around noon on Friday.
The town police have launched a detailed investigation.
