Man dies after being assaulted for stealing coconuts in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru

A person, who was allegedly assaulted stealing coconuts, succumbed to injuries in Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kumar, 37, of Gollarahatti near S. Bidare in Kadur taluk. He was unmarried.

On Monday, the victim was allegedly assaulted by Chandrappa and Madhu, who accused him of stealing coconuts from their farm. After being left unattended for many hours, the victim was shifted to the district hospital in Chikkamagaluru late in the evening. He succumbed to his injuries at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The police registered a case on Tuesday based on a statement by Kumar’s brother Sakharayapatna. Following the victim’s death, the sections that deal with murder were added to the case. The police have arrested both the accused.
