Man hangs self in Kanpur hotel room, probe begins

Kanpur: A 35-year-old man allegedly hanged himself to death inside a hotel room in New Azad Nagar area here on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Anurag Trivedi, who was staying in the hotel room along with his friend Rajneesh for the past three days.According to police, hotel staff learnt about the incident on Tuesday morning and informed police. Later, a police team along with forensic experts reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem after conducting preliminary investigation. Initial findings suggested that Anurag had first attempted to slit his wrist before allegedly hanging himself from a ceiling fan inside the room.According to the hotel manager, Anurag had booked the room due to a power outage at his residence.

His wife told police that he had not responded to phone calls since Monday.Meanwhile, police have detained Rajneesh, who had allegedly fled the scene after the incident, for questioning. During interrogation, Rajneesh told police that he had gone outside to smoke and returned to find Anurag hanging, after which he panicked and fled.Hotel staff told investigators that several young men had visited the room over the past three days.Station in-charge Pradeep Kumar Singh said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem findings and any formal complaint received.
