A deep-rooted conspiracy has emerged in the gruesome murder of four-year-old twin sisters in Jubilee Nagar near Karimnagar on Friday, with the police arresting their father, his parents and brother on Monday.
A detailed investigation, backed by the post-mortem report, unravelled the conspiracy behind the chilling double murder, exposing the deeply entrenched patriarchal mindset of the accused.
The victims, four-year-old twins Geethamshi and Geethanvika, were allegedly killed by their father, Kachu Srisailam (28), a private employee, who drowned them in an agricultural well at Jubilee Nagar on Friday (April 3).
The incident sparked outrage among villagers, who demanded the harshest punishment for the accused, terming the crime heinous.
Acting on credible information, a police team led by Karimnagar Rural Circle Inspector A. Niranjan Reddy apprehended the four accused — Srisailam, his parents Ashok and Lavanya, and his brother Rakesh — from Gopalpur village on Sunday.
Police said Srisailam allegedly committed the crime due to his aversion to the girl child and an obsessive preference for a son, reportedly at the behest of his parents and brother.
He had allegedly pressured his wife, Maunika, to undergo an abortion after scanning tests confirmed that the twin foetuses were female. However, she refused. According to police, the four accused hatched the murder plot, with Srisailam executing it.
He allegedly pushed his daughters into an open well. While Geethanvika drowned immediately, Geethamshi struggled in the water. Srisailam then jumped into the well and drowned her.
He then tried to cover up the horrific crime by projecting it as accidental drowning. The local farmers grew suspicious of his strange behavior and beat him up.
He later attempted to cover up the crime by portraying it as an accidental drowning. However, local farmers grew suspicious of his behaviour and confronted him.
Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam appreciated the police team for swiftly uncovering the conspiracy and arresting all four accused.
