A man allegedly stabbed himself outside the office of Navalgund MLA NH Konaraddi in Navalgund town of Karnataka's Dharwad district on Monday, triggering panic in the area.

The injured has been identified as Mahantesh Tiramari, a resident of Padesur village in Navalgund taluk. According to preliminary information, Mahantesh came to the MLA's office and stabbed himself in the abdomen. The reason behind the incident is not yet known.

People present at the spot immediately rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition has not been disclosed.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began an inquiry. They have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led Mahantesh to stab himself outside the legislator's office.

A case has been registered at the Navalgund Police Station. Police are examining all aspects of the incident and are expected to record statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
