It sounds like the beginning of the end for Bernardo Silva at Manchester City.
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders has dropped the clearest hint yet that the Portuguese midfielder’s nine-year stint at the club could wrap up this summer, with his contract set to expire and no extension agreed so far.
Transfer Talk Swirls
At 31, Silva continues to attract interest across Europe and beyond, with links to FC Barcelona, Juventus, and clubs in MLS and Saudi Arabia doing the rounds.
While nothing is confirmed, the silence around a renewal — and Lijnders’ comments — suggest City fans may need to prepare for a farewell.

A Player Like No Other
Speaking after City’s 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool, Lijnders was full of praise for Silva, who has been a central figure under Pep Guardiola.
“You never replace a player with the same kind of player, because they don’t exist. Bernardo Silva is unique," he said.
“The way he controls games, the way he moves, the way he receives, the way he leads, the way he sees the solutions, all these things."
He added: “It will be hard because, as I said, in the game, when he is not playing, you will see how he is missed — and that’s one game. Imagine a season."
“But every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last month. There are only six weeks. And I hope he has a good farewell. He deserves all that attention as well."
A Legacy Cemented
Since arriving from AS Monaco in 2017, Silva has made 450 appearances and become one of City’s most reliable and versatile performers.
His trophy cabinet speaks volumes: six Premier League titles, the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League crown, and multiple domestic honours.
With City still chasing silverware this season, including a potential domestic treble, the timing of Silva’s potential exit adds extra weight to the run-in.
