Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the results of the local body elections in Gujarat reflect the people’s trust in “good governance" and development-focused politics. He said the strong mandate has further deepened the bond between the people of Gujarat and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In a statement, shared on X, after the BJP’s sweeping performance in municipal corporation, municipality, taluka panchayat and district panchayat elections, PM Modi said voters have once again supported the state government’s “people-centric and development-oriented work".

“By recognizing the people-centric and development-oriented work of the state government, the people of Gujarat have once again expressed their trust in the politics of good governance. These results clearly demonstrate that the public has given their heartfelt blessings to the tireless efforts made by the BJP over the years," the Prime Minister wrote.

PM Modi also added that the party would continue working with “greater commitment and dedication" to further development in the state in the coming years.

“I assure the people of Gujarat that in the times to come, we will work with even greater commitment and dedication, and remain continuously striving to take the state to new heights of development," he said.

As per the results of the elections held for municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats and taluka panchayats available so far since counting of votes started at 9 AM, the BJP has won 6,472 of more than 9,900 seats, while the Congress has secured 1,412 seats.

Independents and other parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and AIMIM, have bagged 597 seats.

Polling for 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats was held on Sunday under revised norms for Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservations, which required extensive delimitation and ward restructuring in several districts.

More than 4.18 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise.

The civic bodies included nine newly-created municipal corporations, namely Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar.
