A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sentenced terror accused Mohammed Shariq to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in the 2022 Mangaluru cooker blast case.

Shariq had pleaded guilty before the court.

The incident took place on November 19, 2022, near Kankanady in Mangaluru. Investigators said Shariq was allegedly on his way to plant an explosive at Kadri Manjunath Temple when it went off midway, preventing a major tragedy. He was injured in the blast, along with auto driver Purushottam Poojary.

After undergoing treatment for nearly three months, Shariq was taken into NIA custody. The agency later completed its investigation and filed a chargesheet in the case.
