After high-profile Islamabad peace talks were called off by US President Donald Trump last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday said “some agreements have been reached" with Oman during his meeting with officials in Muscat on weekend.

Araghchi on Monday reached Russia to discuss the status of US negotiations after meeting key mediators in Pakistan and Oman last weekend.

Speaking about the meeting in Oman, he said: “Iran and Oman are both coastal countries of the Strait of Hormuz, and it was necessary to hold consultations on this matter."

“Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is an important global issue, and as two countries overlooking this strait, we need to have close coordination to secure mutual interests. In any action taken in this regard, the interests of Iran and Oman are directly involved," he said while adding that agreements have been reached for consultations to continue at expert levels.

The Foreign Minister also said that his trip to Pakistan, which is working as a mediator for peace talks between Iran and the US, was “very successful".

In a post on X, he said: “Appreciative of my gracious hosts in Oman. Important discussions on bilateral matters and regional developments. As only Hormuz littoral states, our focus included ways to ensure safe transit that is to benefit of all dear neighbors and the world. Our neighbors are our priority."

Later in a post on X, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi also commented that he had a “good discussion" with Iran on the Strait of Hormuz, adding that “much diplomacy" and “practical solutions" are required to ensure freedom of navigation in the waterway.

According to CNN, Albusaidi, however, made no mention of any agreements being signed.

Araghchi’s visit to Russia, Pakistan and Oman comes as the US President abruptly canceled plans for his top envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to travel to Pakistan for another round of negotiations over the weekend.

US President Donald Trump is slated to hold a Situation Room meeting with his top national security and foreign policy team on Monday.

CNN quoted sources confirming that the officials will discuss Trump’s options for moving ahead, including whether or not to resume the US bombing campaign that’s on hold after the president extended a ceasefire last week.
