Manisha Koirala recently opened up about her equation with actor Rekha. “I became friends with Rekha ji much later. I didn’t open up much with her initially. But when I did and saw a different side of her, she also opened up. I was like, ‘My goodness’! There is so much of wisdom; there is so much of a woman, there is so much of a girl. There is so much of everything in that woman. Art, intelligence, wisdom, compassion, beauty. She is an enigma. She is an icon. Something that is unmatched. Her talent, beauty, everything is unmatched,” said Koirala, 54.
On how their “friendship and fondness grew,” the Heeramandi actor told Pinkvilla, “I saw her without makeup. She looked beautiful. Then, I sat there and bonded for hours long. I was sitting and listening to her and getting mesmerised because her innate beauty was visible. I did a couple of shows with her. Ever since, hamari dosti huyi (we have been friends).”
Building meaningful friendships with other women isn’t just empowering; it’s a step toward creating a more compassionate and inclusive world, said Sahiba Rattan Sethi, counselling psychologist, founder, Ummeed Healing.
“Women-to-women friendships are powerful for support, empowerment, and personal growth. When women uplift each other, they create safe spaces for vulnerability, encouragement, and authenticity. These friendships often thrive on shared understanding and mutual respect, fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity. Women can celebrate each other’s achievements without judgment, cheer one another on through struggles, and exchange wisdom born of similar experiences,” said Sethi.
Such bonds have a ripple effect, inspiring confidence and resilience. “Women who support women become catalysts for change, breaking down stereotypes and building a culture of cooperation instead of competition. In a world that often pits women against each other, these friendships act as counter-narratives, proving that unity is more powerful than rivalry,” said Sethi.
Women encouraging other women also promotes mental well-being. Concurred clinical psychologist Kamna Chhibber and shared, ” Providing the right kind of encouragement in these friendships is important and can be a rather positive experience for all concerned”. “It ensures healthy interactions and the building of strong connections. Through these, individuals can engage with each other and the situations of their lives with greater positivity and optimism,” said Chhibber.
Sethi said how a kind word or an act of support can be transformative, reminding someone they are not alone in their journey. “It’s a reminder that shared strength can uplift communities. So understanding a women with empathy and giving each other the courage to grow mentally, physically, emotionally and socially and create a save and healthy relationship with each other,” said Sethi.
