India defeated world champions Germany 3-1 in a FIH Pro League match on Wednesday

India defeated reigning world champions Germany 3-1 in an inspired performance in the FIH Pro League to celebrate midfield maestro Manpreet Singh’s milestone match here on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Manpreet became India’s most-capped hockey player with his 413th appearance for the country during the match against Germany.
The star midfielder surpassed former captain and current Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey who has represented the country 412 times in his decorated career.
India led 2-0 at half time with goals from Mandeep Singh (7th minute) and Shilanand Lakra (13th) before Nilakanta Sharma struck in the 35th minute.
All the three Indian goals were field efforts.
Germany pulled one back through Raphael Hartkopf’s 45th minute field goal.
India had lost to Olympic champions the Netherlands 2-3 on June 14.
They face Germany again on Thursday.
