Wes Moore, the first Black Maryland governor and a combat veteran who led soldiers during the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, said that the American president, Donald Trump, “lacks seriousness". His remark was in reference to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

“As someone who has worn this uniform, and you know, along with my fellow service members risked my life in defence of this country, to see such a free-wheeling conversation about issues of life and death is disappointing," Moore said in an interview Thursday.

Moore’s remarks came just a day after Trump issued an “ultimate ultimatum" to Iran to stop developing nuclear weapons.

“We’re not looking for long-term war. I only want one thing — Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. That’s it," he said.

When asked if he had a message for the Supreme Leader of Iran, who says that they will not surrender, he said, “I say, ‘Good luck.'"

“For 40 years, they’ve been saying ‘death to America,'" Trump said on Iran.

Meanwhile, Moore mentioned that “people’s lives (are) on the line" amid the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Responding to Moore’s remarks, Anna Kelly, the White House deputy press secretary, said in a statement, “Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump because they trust him to keep our country safe. As the President has said consistently, Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon."

The tension between Iran and Israel continues for the eighth day, with Iran launching a fresh wave of missiles on Friday. According to several reports, Iranian missile impacts were reported in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and Beersheba.

Meanwhile, in a significant development for India, Iran on Friday said it is making a special exception to facilitate the evacuation of Indian students stranded amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
