Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen swapped his Red Bull single-seater for a sports car this weekend, making his debut in the Nürburgring Endurance Series on Saturday.

The Dutch driver finished seventh out of 19 starters, piloting a Porsche Cayman GT4 over the grueling four-hour race.

From Monza to the “Green Hell"

Fresh from his victory at the Italian Grand Prix just a week ago, Verstappen took advantage of a rare gap in the F1 calendar to indulge in what he called a lifelong racing ambition. The Nürburgring Nordschleife, often dubbed “The Green Hell," is one of motorsport’s most iconic and demanding circuits.

“The Nürburgring Nordschleife has always been at the top of the list of tracks I wanted to race on because of its length, layout, and history," Verstappen said after the race.

Stretching over 20 kilometers with more than 150 corners, the circuit has long been considered the ultimate test for both drivers and machines.

A Buzz in the Paddock

Verstappen’s presence ensured that fans crowded around his paddock throughout the weekend, while security staff ensured only authorized personnel had access. To give him space to operate, organizers even installed privacy screens around the Red Bull driver’s garage, shielding him from the neighboring pit stops.

Despite competing outside his usual high-pressure F1 environment, Verstappen treated the event with his trademark professionalism, settling into the rhythm of endurance, securing a seventh-place finish while racing alongside seasoned sports car drivers.

Back to F1 Duty

While this Nürburgring adventure marked an exciting detour, Verstappen’s focus now returns to his main stage.

He will be back behind the wheel of his Red Bull when Formula 1 resumes next weekend in Azerbaijan, where he continues his quest for another world title, against a seemingly impenetrable McLaren, whose drivers both tower over the Dutchman currently in the World Championship standings.
