Mayor pulls up officials for negligence

Kanpur: Mayor of Kanpur Nagar Nigam, Pramila Pandey, on Monday alleged thatofficials ignored her suggestion to float tenders for cleaning anddesilting of the city’s nullahs in March so that the work could becompleted before the onset of monsoon by June 2026.Expressing displeasure over the situation arising after the recent rains,the Mayor said that due to the negligence and carelessness of officials,she and corporators had to face public anger in several areas affected bywaterlogging and overflowing drains.The Mayor instructed all corporators to record videos and provide writtendetails of any issues in their respective wards—such as waterlogging, draincleaning, or matters related to the Metro—and send them to her WhatsAppnumber so that remedial action could be taken.Mayor along with municipal commissioner andcorporators conducted an inspection of the Sisamau nullah on VIP road. During the inspection, the Mayor found laxity in the drain cleaningwork at several locations. The Mayor issued instructions to rectify the shortcomings to prevent future waterlogging, to conduct an inquiry into the collapse of the newlyconstructed wall on the Sisamau drain and take action against thecontractor.
