New Delhi: A 38-year-old Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) contractual employee died after his motorcycle was hit by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus in east Delhi’s Shahdara Sunday afternoon. The bus driver was arrested, police said.The deceased has been identified as Sandeep, a resident of Pappu Colony in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was returning home from the Shahdara side when the accident took place.According to police, information regarding a fatal road accident in front of the GTB Enclave police station was received around 12.05 pm. DCP (Shahdara) RP Meena said, “Sandeep was found with serious head injuries and had died on the spot.”Another police officer familiar with the investigation said that preliminary inquiry suggests Sandeep was attempting to overtake the bus when it collided with his motorcycle.
“His bike got disbalanced after the collision and, since he was not wearing a helmet, he sustained fatal head injuries,” he added.Police have registered a case at the GTB Enclave police station under BNS.Several fatal accidents involving DTC buses have been reported in the recent past. Earlier this year in March, a scooter rider was allegedly crushed to death by a DTC bus near the Uttam Nagar West metro station in southwest Delhi. In Oct last year, three people were injured after a DTC bus collided with an e-rickshaw and a motorcycle, which subsequently hit a school van in Shahdara’s Vishwas Nagar.
