Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased compressed natural gas (CNG) prices across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by Rs 2 per kg, raising the retail rate from Rs 82 to Rs 84 per kg with effect from May 14. The revised prices apply across Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and nearby MMR areas.

Following the hike, auto unions have demanded an increase in fares, citing rising operational costs. The price revision comes amid PM Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for a nationwide “austerity" drive to conserve fuel and foreign exchange due to the global crisis.
