Michelle Obama said she’s “so glad” she didn’t have a boy while discussing masculinity and parenting.

Former US First Lady Michelle Obama said that she has no regrets about not having a son because he would’ve just been a pint-sized version of her husband, Barack Obama. In a lighthearted exchange on the latest episode of her podcast “The Light Podcast (IMO)", Michelle Obama said she’s “so glad" she didn’t have a boy while discussing masculinity and parenting with her brother Craig Robinson and radio host Angie Martinez.
“You should’ve thrown a boy in the mix," Angie Martinez teased to which Michelle Obama replied, “I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy."
“Why didn’t you throw in a third?" Angie Martinez asked.
“Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama," Michelle said to laughter as Angie Martinez joked, “Baby Barack — it would’ve been amazing!"
“Ooh, no, I would’ve felt for him," Michelle added as she reflected on the pressure a son might face living in the shadow of the former president.
Michelle and Barack Obama, who married in 1992, are parents to two daughters, Malia (26) and Sasha (24).
Michelle Obama On Being A Mother
Michelle Obama also spoke candidly about motherhood on the podcast as she said, “I’ve loved every phase of parenting: I loved them when they were little babies, I loved them when they were walking and starting to talk, the teenage years were interesting in the White House."
“But I’ve loved every time with them and watching them become their own people and make their own choices, and figure stuff out, and call me after they figure stuff out," she added.
Her brother Craig Robinson chimed in, noting that Michelle Obama often plays a guiding role with his own sons.
“She just borrowed our boys," he joked to which Michelle Obama replied, “I got plenty."
